| 11/18/2009 | Jyles Tucker, LB (SD) | The Chargers have placed Tucker on the injured reserve list, meaning he's finished for the season. Analysis: Tucker suffered an ankle injury in a win at the New York Giants two weeks ago. He appeared in seven games as a reserve and was inactive for two others. Tucker was given a five-year contract before the 2008 season despite having played in only six career regular-season games. |
| 11/18/2009 | Steve Heiden, TE (Cle) | Heiden was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with an ankle injury. Analysis: Heiden injured his ankle in Monday night's loss to Baltimore. He had off-season knee surgery and had missed two games with a knee injury. |
| 11/18/2009 | Vince Young, QB (Ten) | The 2006 Offensive Rookie of the Year has posted a passer rating of 90.4 or better in three straight games for the first time in his short career, and he is running effectively. Analysis: Coincidence or not, the Titans are showing signs of life after the 0-6 start prompted owner Bud Adams to insist that coach Jeff Fisher start the quarterback Adams had watched through high school and college in Texas. |
| 11/18/2009 | Bruce Gradkowski, QB (Oak) | Gradkowski will get the starting nod Sunday against Cincinnati as the Raiders have had enough of former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell - for now. Analysis: This will be just the second start for Gradkowski since 2006. He started one game last year in Cleveland and 11 games as a rookie for Tampa Bay in 2006. Gradkowski is 17 for 30 for 163 yards and two interceptions. It's unlikely that Gradkowski can do worse than Russell did, though there's certainly no reason to own him on your fantasy team. |
| 11/18/2009 | JaMarcus Russell, QB (Oak) | The Oakland Raiders are benching Russell, handing the starting job to Bruce Gradkowski. Analysis: Coach Tom Cable said after practice Wednesday that Gradkowski will get the nod Sunday against Cincinnati. Cable says the plan is for Gradkowski to start the rest of the season. Cable has pulled Russell, the former top overall draft pick, for ineffectiveness in two of the past three games. No Raiders quarterback should be considered as a viable fantasy option at this point. |
| 11/18/2009 | Brady Quinn, QB (Cle) | Quinn has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for his chop block on Baltimore's Terrell Suggs, who is out for Sunday's game against the Colts. Analysis: After throwing an interception in Monday night's 16-0 loss to the Ravens, Quinn dived at Suggs' knees while trying to bring down cornerback Chris Carr, who had picked him off. Suggs had to leave the game and could miss more time. |
| 11/18/2009 | Chris McAlister, CB (NO) | The New Orleans Saints have signed McAlister. Analysis: The 32-year-old former Ravens star has been elected to the Pro Bowl three times in his 10-year career but missed most of last season with a right knee injury and was released by Baltimore last February. Both Saints starting cornerbacks are nursing injuries. Jabari Greer has a groin pull and Tracy Porter a sprained left knee. |
| 11/18/2009 | Billy Cundiff, K (Bal) | The Baltimore Ravens have signed Cundiff, who once enjoyed success with the Dallas Cowboys and was perfect in a brief stint with Cleveland this season. Analysis: The 29-year-old Cundiff replaces an ineffective Steve Hauschka, who was cut Tuesday after missing a field goal and having an extra point blocked in Monday night's 16-0 win over the Browns. Cundiff has made 66 of 89 field-goal attempts. He kicked for the Cowboys from 2002-05 and was 6 for 6 on field goal tries with Cleveland as a replacement for the injured Phil Dawson. |
| 11/18/2009 | Jake Allen, WR (Cle) | The Packers have released Allen. Analysis: Allen spent the entire 2008 season and the first seven weeks of the 2009 season on the Packers' practice squad, and was signed to the team's roster after Brett Swain sustained a season-ending knee injury. |
| 11/18/2009 | Jordan Kent, WR (StL) | The St. Louis Rams have signed Kent to replace Keenan Burton, the receiver lost for the season to a knee injury. Analysis: Kent is 6-foot-4 and spent training camp with Seattle. He was waived on Sept. 5. He was a sixth-round draft pick of the Seahawks in 2007 and split time between the practice squad and active roster. |
| 11/17/2009 | Todd Heap, TE (Bal) | Heap had four catches for 43 yards in a 16-0 win Monday at Cleveland. Analysis: Heap has not reached the end zone since the Ravens' second game of the season and may have to step out of his low-key demeanor and demand the ball from Ravens QB Joe Flacco. |
| 11/17/2009 | Ray Rice, RB (Bal) | Rice rushed 20 times for 89 yards and a TD in a 16-0 win Monday at Cleveland. He also had three receptions for 15 yards and threw an incompletion on a third-down pass play. Analysis: Rice could have topped 100 yards if not for the ill-advised pass attempt. He has five rushing TDs in the last four games for the Ravens. |
| 11/17/2009 | Joe Flacco, QB (Bal) | Flacco was 13 of 18 for 155 yards and no TDs or INTs in a 16-0 win Monday at Cleveland. Analysis: Flacco provided little fantasy value on a dreary night in Cleveland, but he didn't sound too disappointed in letting down his fantasy owners. "I guess I agree it wasn't pretty," he said. "It was an ugly win, but that's the way some wins are in the NFL." |
| 11/17/2009 | Terrell Suggs, LB (Bal) | Suggs will miss Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts because of a knee injury. Analysis: Suggs has a sprained ligament in his right knee, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday. Suggs was injured on an illegal chop block by Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn following an interception by the Ravens Monday night in Baltimore's 16-0 win |
| 11/17/2009 | Jeff Reed, K (Pit) | Reed has been absolved by the Steelers for his poor tackling effort Sunday in an 18-12 loss to the Bengals in which he failed to bring down Bernard Scott on a 96-yard kickoff return for a TD. Analysis: Reed only halfheartedly tried to bring down Scott, but coach Mike Tomlin won't blame a kicker for the latest touchdown. Kickers rarely have the speed, mobility or quickness to do more than get in the way of a returner downfield. "Man, I am not going to go down to evaluating Jeff Reed as a tackler," Tomlin said. "When it comes down to that, we have failed as a coverage unit. I don't lose any sleep on the quality of Jeff Reed's tackles." |
| 11/17/2009 | Steven Hauschka, K (Bal) | The Baltimore Ravens have cut Hauschka, who missed a 36-yard field goal and had a conversion blocked in Monday night's 16-0 win over Cleveland. Analysis: No replacement was immediately announced. Former Jets kicker Mike Nugent and former Cowboys kicker Billy Cundiff worked out for the team last week. |
| 11/17/2009 | Shawne Merriman, LB (SD) | Reality TV star Tila Tequila is suing Merriman in a filing alleging domestic violence. Attorney Cyrus Nownejad told The Associated Press that Tequila is seeking $1.5 million in damages. Analysis: Merriman was arrested on Sept. 6 after Tequila signed a citizen's arrest warrant accusing him of battery and false imprisonment at his suburban home. District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis declined to charge Merriman. Merriman told the AP in an e-mail that he hadn't seen a copy of the suit. His attorney didn't immediately return a call seeking comment Tuesday. |
| 11/17/2009 | Arnold Harrison, LB (Cle) | The Steelers have waived Harrison, the first player to lose his job after three kickoff return touchdowns were allowed by Pittsburgh's coverage unit in the last four games. Analysis: Harrison had played for the Steelers since 2005. He is not related to Steelers Pro Bowl LB James Harrison. |
| 11/17/2009 | Joshua Cribbs, WR (Cle) | Coach Eric Mangini expects Cribbs to play when the Browns go against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Analysis: Cribbs, Cleveland's special teams standout and wide receiver, was listed as questionable on Thursday's injury report. |
| 11/17/2009 | Larry Johnson, RB (Cin) | Johnson has agreed to terms with the Cincinnati Bengals to be one of their backups, giving the AFC North leaders depth at the position, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. Analysis: Johnson reached the contract agreement Tuesday, according to the person, speaking on condition of anonymity because the team had not made an announcement. The Bengals have to make a roster move to clear a spot for Johnson, who will be fourth on the depth chart at the outset. |
