Scouting Report
Williams is rated as one of the top seniors in the draft after averaging 12.5 points his final season to help Louisville win the Big East regular-season and tournament championships. His career ended on a very negative note as he shot 1 of 7 for five points in a 64-52 loss to Michigan State in a regional final in the NCAA tournament, and that kind of inconsistent performance makes Williams a question mark as far as where he will be drafted. What cannot be questioned is that he has all the physical tools to play the small forward position. He can defend most perimeter players and is an excellent rebounder who had seven double-doubles last season. His athleticism is his greatest asset, and he could become a candidate for the NBA dunk contest. Williams has shown improvement with his perimeter shot as his career progressed. He shot 26.1 percent on 3-pointers as a sophomore before connecting on 38.5 percent of his attempts and making a team-high 57 as a senior. His progress from the perimeter, however, only makes his woes at the foul line more difficult to explain. Williams was a career 58.9 percent free-throw shooter and his percentage was worse his final two seasons compared to his first two. Just based on talent alone, Williams will be a first-round draft pick. It is unlikely he will be a lottery selection since he projects more as a career backup than as someone who can be counted on in more meaningful minutes.
