| It's not often when you find a 20-point-per-game scorer that averages less than 13 shots, but Harden is truly a unique player. The 19-year-old lefty was 25th in the nation in scoring as a sophomore at 20.1 points per game, but averaged fewer shots per game (12.9) than all 24 ahead of him except for North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough, who averaged 12.8. In 69 career games, Harden averaged just 11.9 shots. He took 20 or more shots just six times. The Sun Devils guard obviously doesn't have to score based on quantity of shots - he hit a remarkable 50.6 percent from the field in two seasons, including 52.7 percent as he was named Pac-10 freshman of the year and a first-team all-conference performer. Harden led the Sun Devils to consecutive 20-plus-win seasons for the first time since 1979-81 and guided them to their first NCAA tournament berth since 2003. He struggled in two NCAA tournament games last season, averaging just 9.5 points on 16.7 percent shooting, but he was named Arizona State's first ever first-team AP All-American in 2008-09. Harden doesn't just get the job done by putting the ball in the hoop - he averaged 5.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.9 steals in two seasons. |
