| If there were any questions about Flynn's toughness and big-game, shot-making ability, those were answered in mid-March at Madison Square Garden as the point guard led Syracuse to dramatic back-to-back overtime victories in the Big East tournament. Playing a game-high 67 minutes, Flynn had 34 points, 11 assists and a career-high six steals as the Orange defeated Connecticut 127-117 in six overtimes in the quarterfinals. Less than 24 hours later, the 20-year-old sophomore played a team-high 45 minutes, scoring 15 points with nine assists in a 74-69 overtime victory over West Virginia in the semifinals. Syracuse fell to Louisville 76-66 in the title game, but Flynn was named tournament MVP, marking just the fourth time a player not on the championship team earned the award. Flynn, who was second in the nation in minutes played with 1,418, averaged a team-best 17.4 points as a sophomore, but he needs to improve his shooting from beyond the arc after making just 33.3 percent in two seasons. Flynn is small by NBA point guard standards, but he's proven he can get the ball to the open man - he ranked sixth in Division I with 6.7 assists per game in 2008-09. |
